Hello Friends!

What a great ride Lifebook 2017 has been, it's been such an honor to be among this trip of instructors and amazing students. I've enjoyed every minute. I'm so grateful to my friend, Tamara Laporte for having me for the second time!

Life Book 2018
New & Improved, Bigger & Better!

It’s very much in line with her very first vision for Life Book when she started dreaming up the concept in 2011! :)
The key differences/ extras this year are:

  • Virtual Life Book Gift (or Swag) Bag!!! :D Everyone who signs up to Life Book gets a virtual ‘goodie bag’ filled with things like: high res prints (for you to print out), exclusive discount codes from teachers and sponsors, free ebooks and ezines and other awesome stuff! yay! Click here to find out what is in the gift bag!

  • Tamara will run several Facebook live sessions (first year she is offering this), these will be in the form of: Check ins/ FAQs/ Impromptu art sessions & They will be recorded and available for those who can’t make the live sessions.
  • Life long access to all content (this is the first year she is offering life long access to all content, yay!!)

In a nutshell, this is the Incredible Life Book 2018 offer:

Happy Online Birthday !

coupon code for jodi ohl's etsy shop

It's hard to believe that I started teaching online 7 years ago this month!!  Holy cow!  That decision probably is one of the main catalysts that set me off on the path to working full time as an artist.

It was from there I built the confidence to send work off to magazine publishers and have now been featured in close to 30 articles and collaborative ventures internationally.

The teaching, however, has by far my most treasured experience. Through online teaching I have met literally 1000's of students and artists from around the world that have changed my life for the better.  They add to my life far more than I add to theirs.

Leaping from online teaching to face to face teaching around the country and in Canada most recently, I have connected with many that I met first initially online or some that have read about my work in magazines.    It's been so wonderful to meet the face behind the screen friend I have come to know!

Truly amazing how one or decisions in our life can lead to amazing turning points that can forever change us.

This month my first online class turns 7 .  In celebration of that milestone, I created a special coupon code you can use in my shop as a thank you!

Use coupon code:   happyonlinebirthday from now until June 19th, 2016.

Save 15.00 off any purchase of 99.00 or more (That's the price of my latest class  Dirty Flirty Birds). You can use it for the class or any artwork over that price..

Take a look and see if anything speaks to you!

Thank you for following me in this journey!

xoxo

It's been awhile! News and updates!

Hi Guys,   wowie....it's been awhile!  My apologies for falling off the face of the earth!   Life has been crazy busy for sure but I've also had the extra hurdle of being sick for almost a month,  I felt better enough to go on vacation (haha...thank goodness) but then came home and it seems to have returned all over again.    Anyways, I've been still working in my moments of clarity while fighting this bug off, sometimes from the couch and most of the time in my pj's!   That's the one good thing about working from home, right?  I just wanted to drop you a quick line this morning and get you up to speed on some great things that are going on in the artsy world I live in and share it with you as there's lots of fun to be had all around, either in person at one of the several upcoming workshops or online in the comfort of your home.

First--Pre registration opens TODAY for 21 Secrets "Techniques and Tools"!  I'm participating for the second time for this awesome collaborative class.  You'll enjoy 21 mini workshops from artists around the world who will be sharing some of their favorite tips and techniques, tools and more!  Class begins on April 1st.  Click through on my page to see more (and in disclosure, this is how the artists get paid).

Enter  the code Springsecret and receive 10.00 off your purchase!

And just a hint about my class...we are going to be using some watercolors in this manner---

We are coming up on the one month anniversary of my online class opening, Diirty Flirty Birds! If you haven't joined in yet, don't worry! This is an online class that is ongoing.   You can jump in and start at any time. Check out more info on the class by going to Creative Workshops.

Angelic Inspirations and Single Peeps.  We still have  a bit of room so don't be shy, register today for a weekend full of fun!

Big News--I'll be returning to Saluda, NC for a 3 day weekend of workshops.   We are doing things a bit differently this time around by doing an extended class, breaking it up into a Friday evening jump start with a bonus make and take before we launch into a full day class on Saturday.   We will then finish off the weekend with my popular 'Single Peeps" class.    Tons of fun along with many many tips and techniques to learn and grow from.
Immerse yourself in the beauty of our Western NC mountains,  Random Arts is a wonderfully inspiring place to visit and I am so excited to be back again this year!

I have a couple more announcements coming up but the truth of the matter is...with working on the final portion of my book, my unexpected illness and then vacation---I'm running a tad bit behind in all my todos.  Thank you for joining my newsletter and blog and following me in this journey!
I'll be back soon with more updates!

Unfinished Business and a Coupon Code (expires today!)

Sometimes I drive myself nuts.

Starting and stopping multiple projects at once and have things going on everywhere.   There really is a method to my madness and most of the time I do it in the name of 'efficiency'  or frugal-ness (I don't want to waste paint and to keep busy while things are drying).
But....

But...

If I'm honest with myself, sometimes I have multiple projects going on at once because I don't know what the next step is for the piece I'm working on so rather than stare at it, I move on to something else, meanwhile I hope that piece of the puzzle will come to me while keeping busy.

Sometimes that method works...and sometimes that method does not work.  I could make a case for multi-tasking and how wonderful it is.... and I could also make a case that it causes chaos and procrastination if you take it too far. (I do the latter more than the former!)

You can't force inspiration but you can force yourself to not walk away from something that is sooo close to being finished.  You need to tell yourself you can and you will work out the kinks and finish what you started.

Or not.

I only know myself and that 'self' needs a kick in the arse every once in awhile otherwise there's a heck of a lot of chaos and not whole lot of finished work which causes me anxiety which in turn causes me to stress out...none of which is good for the creative soul.

I'm showing you this piece that is unfinished but I've been adding to it  little by little over the last month.  Really, a month??  lol     It's so close I can taste it.  I just need to finish it.  By admitting to my big procrastination disguised as multi tasking habits, maybe it'll inspire me to show you the finished work in my next piece so we can put this baby to rest and move on to new work.
Sounds good?
(another unfinished work)

Do you have any less than ideal habits in the studio?
I'm not going to say 'bad' because multi tasking for me isn't necessarily a bad habit it's necessary most of the time--my dealio or deal breaker happens when I have 20 works going on an nothing is finished! :))

OHHHH HEYYYY...

Get your Art On, Game on and Appetizers ON!

Happy February 1st!  It's Super Bowl Sunday here in the US and we are looking forward to this evening's game day events and of course our football appetizers, snacks and 'beverages'  with family and friends.

I'm still not sure exactly what I'm going to make although I've bought ingredients for a few potential goodies after hunting Pineterst all week for ideas.

I've heard rumors that the party I'm going to has lots of dips and meaty goodness so I'm assigned anything in the world other than Meat or Dip :))

I've never made either one. Is today the day to be an experimenter??  I guess there is only one way to find out!

What are you making???
New card styles in the shop!  "Block Party" flat notecard/postcard
Well on top of Super Bowl Sunday appetizer talk, I wanted to tell you that today is the last day to use my special coupon code for my Etsy shop that created as a 'thank you' for my newsletter and blog readers.

What is that code you say?? :)
Glad you asked!
New card style in the shop:  "Dirty Flirty Birds"

Use coupon code:

15foryou

And receive 15.00 off a purchase of 85.00 or more. I specifically created it so you could take my Podtastic class at an introductory price, but if you've already taken the class or just aren't into creating right now and would rather buy art, then that code will work on on any purchase or a combination of items that are 85.00 or more.

18x18  Believe in Yourself

I've been busy all throughout January working on my Pod-tastic class (both producing it and working with the students online), but I've also been busy loading up my shop with new items. I started the month with about 40 some items and now I'm ending with almost 70!!!
Including originals, new classes,  several prints, new limited edition prints,  magnets, cards and more.
...and I still have pieces  have to list yet including this 12 x 36 super sweet  "Skinny Little Village" (new collection).  **If you are interested in this piece let me know, I can add it to my shop.   I was hoping to get better pictures of it and just haven't had a chance yet otherwise it would be in there!

As I mentioned before, January has been totally "Pod-Tastic!!"

It's also been a fun month to experiment with some new things,  get ready for upcoming classes and really just get my bearings again.  Kind of.  I still have some work to do to fully feel that way.
And that's a wrap folks, hope you enjoy the Super Bowl if you are watching at home or over with friends-- I know awesome appetizers and  dips will be a part of the mix...be safe with the adult beverages. Have Fun!!  Game On:::

Stay tuned next week as I will be posting more "Burning Questions" from my readers.   I'm loving the feedback I've been getting so far on the posts, on facebook and via private email. If you have a question around the artistic life, art biz, techniques, marketing, sales,  anything on your mind...send me a message titled "Burning Questions" to jodiohl at  hotmail dot com  and I may use your question in a future post.

Don't forget, today is the last day to use coupon code:  15foryou in my etsy shop.  (15.00 off 85.00 or more).

News and Specials for YOU!

Hello July!

Lots of fun stuff going on in my neck of the woods, how about you?    Next week I'm heading to New Jersey for the 3rd year teaching at Create Mixed Media Retreats.  Funny how time sneaks up on you, in my head I had all of June to prepare for it, and in a lot of ways I did...samples done, extra inventory for the art show stocked up--but man oh man, where did June go? I'm doing the 'last minute' dance as I speak!  In addition to getting ready for Create (which by the way, there are still seats open in any of my 5 classes~ check out the listings HERE!) If you can't join me in NJ...no fear, I am also going to be in Chicago in August, and Dallas in September.  Check out all of the listings here, and if you have ANY questions just let me know! You can email me at  jodiohl AT hotmail dot com.   As most of my students know by now, I load them up with info, techniques, freebies, prizes and more during the course of each jam packed workshop!

In addition to my funky houses, don't be surprised to see lots of colorful and texture filled abstracts. I'm loving them more and more as I grow as an artist.  Abstracts are a lot harder to do well then most people assume, well I love a challenge and see lots of potential for growth...and maybe even more classes down the road!.    This piece, "Fear Nothing" represents a bit of transformation for me in my style,  yet still remains true to my love for strong, unique color combinations and layers of  juicy texture.  BTW..I'm offering a VERY short term and super duper special in my shop starting today and running through the 4th.  Take 20% off with this code:
https://www.etsy.com/shop/JodiOhl

http://www.colourarte.com/online-classes/
Other fun stuff happening in June...I spent the large majority of my time working on my online class, "Extreme Portraits".  Oh my.  The group of students I've had to the pleasure of working with have just been amazing.  I can't believe some of the work that's been created!!!  While the live portion of the class is winding down, it's not too late to join in on the fun as the self study portion is accessible from the time you sign up and on for 12 months. As a teacher, I still am available if you have questions even though it's a self study. What are you waiting for? Sign up here, today!
For the latest classes information, be sure to check out the top tabs on my blog (BTW...there is a few pieces of BIG EXCITING news coming about upcoming workshops...one just may be an INTERNATIONAL ONE!!!!!).

Follow your heart and put your feet in motion towards them!

Until next time!
