Today, I wanted to share with you a short demonstration on a question I seem to get all the time on finishing my work. In this video I show you what I do and explain why, but do know that this is just my way of doing things and that there are probably other products and other ways of applying the final application. Many roads lead to the same destination, always. I did happen to notice I miss spoke on the Liquitex products I used so I will share the list on the bottom of this post. The Products I used in this video are: Krylon Low Odor Gloss Spray Varnish, Liquitex Gloss Varnish, Liquitex Satin Varnish, Brush from Lowes (soft finishing brush).

Hi, Jodi! Thanks for the awesome video. I was wondering if you might minimize the "blending" if you start with a coat of workable fixative before you add the other finishes.

Very possibly so...and I do use it from time to time, it may set the drawing media even more so than just the varnish. It's worth a try, right? :)

Hi Jodi, thank you for this video. Just another question :) Do you varnish it right after finished painting or wait? I've been told paint needs about 1 week to dry completely. I'm never sure what to do.. wait or not :)

So glad you found this helpful! As far as your question goes, it really depends on what type of paint you have used and any mediums. For example, if you have used Golden's open medium, that curing time is going to be a lot longer than if you just used the paint without any medium. I generally wait a couple of days up to a week or more to varnish, again, depending on what I've used. Consult your favorite paint manufacturers website for their official recommendation to be sure. Normally, I use resin, but recently have wanted something less cumbersome to work with on canvas... looks like a high gloss varnish may provide the solution.
