Peace Love Joy -Sweet Repeats

peace

Ohhhh I soooo needed time away to find a little peace. My head has been pounding, my senses on overload and my stress level over the top. I really believe too much tv and news has done this to me in great part. Work is the other part that attributes to my anxiety and stress. Every where you turn, it seems like our financial world is going to you know where in a hand basket. And you are reminded of it. And reminded of it. It' s almost as if all the doomsday talk has manifested itself by word of mouth. Of course it's more complicated than that, but when all you here is negative, negative, negative....it becomes reality. I needed some peace and time away from it all.
Away we went. We rented a little cabin in a not so secluded place but just far enough off the path that it seemed as if we were out in the wild wilderness. Okay, so maybe the paved roads gave it away but who's being critical here. It was nice and quiet and full of laughs and good times.

Surround yourself by loved ones and it all becomes so much more clear. You need to have bonding time with those closest to you, after all...without friends and family, you really have very little in life.

Ohhhh those silly boys who are growing so fast and furious, they are becoming mini men before our eyes. **my two are in the center, Zack and Josh***

Caught in the act of marshmallow sacrifices. Good times that will be remembered by all.
And back to reality tomorrow, but a back a bit more refreshed and relaxed. Talk to me again on Friday and we will see if the feeling stays...lol. Perhaps I should limit how much I read and how much news I intake. While I don't want to be ignorant of what' s going on in the world, I don't want it to kill me either.

Peace

Love

Joy

That's what really matters.

We visited Carowinds this weekend for their Haunted Halloween themepark. What a hoot. Scared so bad I about tinkeled in parts. LOL It stinks getting old. Bladders aren't what they used to be especially when you have bloody vampires chasing you with a chains saw. All in a days fun. I even rode 4 or 5 rollercoasters. sighhhhh. Fun yes. Scary oh hell ya. I'm a chicken you know what. But I did it. For awhile, then took a few breaks--no you go ahead, I'll wait. Ya right, I was too scared..lol

((Playing with Picasa)
The park was scary at night. Looks like some didn't make it out this weekend.

bones everywhere. Such a shame. I'm sure they were such nice people.

After (okay so I should have put the before first--who am I to follow the natural order of the world?)

Playing with this to transform photos--thanks Miz Smoochie for linking this fun feature!

Take time out this week to escape from the choas and enjoy what really matters.

Pieces of the Puzzle featuring Smallville and Glenwood Ave

"Smallville" and "Glenwood Avenue"
smallvilletopview
As I travel down the roads of my life by taking my brush and putting it to the canvas, I'm beginning to understand and discover new things about myself, re-discovering people that I've met along the way and reliving memories that I had perhaps tucked away for too long. It's been a great journey so far, and I'm so glad you've taken part in this personal discovery. What's come out of my creations that started this Spring is an evolution in what I do artistically as well. I've taken a very limited color palette and explored different uses of those colors in what's turning into a collection of monochromatic work. I did not realize I was even doing this until some of my friends pointed it out to me. Sometimes it takes a fresh pair of eyes to see what was there all along.
Smallville
"Smallville"
My yellow villages are named after my time spent in Meadville, Pa; living on Glenwood Avenue. I moved there 3 weeks before Jim and I were to get married, transferred by the company I worked for just before our wedding was to happen. The town was not in commuting distance, at least not for me...an hour and half from where we lived on a good day, an eternity on a bad day. You Western New Yorkers and Western PA folks know exactly what I mean on a bad day. 5 miles can take an hour on a blizzardy day. Anywhoo--it was not a commute I could do, especially when I worked in retail management so my days were endless and my weeks long and unpredictable. As I mentioned before, Jim and I were about to get married, I still had preparations to do, we had a baby boy that needed to be taken care of and a house that we didn't quite know what to do with now that we were faced with this new fork in our road.

I couldn't really turn the job offer down though--it was a big salary increase and we so very badly needed the money for many reasons, and I really was hell-bent on being a career woman come you know what or high water so for me, it was a no-brainer. As I look back now, it probably was the beginning of the end. The stress of the moves, the job transfers, the financial burden of having a home that didn't sell when we moved and keeping up with tenants, disasters, and eventually an empty house that we couldn't sell was pretty devasting and that was before the economic down turn. Meadville was a good town, we probably would have really learned to love it there if we had only stayed a bit longer.

But we didn't. It took several months before my husband moved to PA with our son. We spent the first 3 months of our marriage apart but the house I rented was very cool and super big, it was an exciting venture. It was also very stressful. I came very close to leaving the company altogether because of my desire to be the leader of a store, not just an assistant. Mind you, I was promoted 5 times in a little over 2 1/2 years...I was a go getter, but I also wanted my own glory. I didn't want to do someone else's work and then let them take credit for it. I had my airline tickets in hand, and offer letter to go to a new company at one point late spring of 1998. But as it turned out, an area executive talked me out of leaving with promises of bigger and better things on my horizon and the horizon was coming soon. It wouldn't be long before the glory of leading my own team would be mine.

My promotion as promised was not but a month later, my hard work paid off and our family was once again separated for another few months. I was transferred from Pa to NC less then a year after we were married and I had changed jobs moving me to PA. My choice to stay with the company forever changed my life and the life of our family in so many ways. I reflected back in the last post of how my decisions would effect so many people, as really do all of our decisions...and as you look back at your life you start to wonder what if, what could have been, what should have been...then suddenly it all becomes so clear. Whatever you decide, was really meant to be all along. All of the choices that lead to the road your on can be compared to a complicated puzzle that would not be complete with out every single piece. It's not always clear how it fits together, and perhap the answer may not be unveiled to the end. But, since it make no sense to undo the puzzle, we must forge ahead until every last piece fits in perfectlly to reveal the beautiful picture of your life. Choosing the pieces wisely can make the journey to the end easier, but by choose you must as difficult as it may be.

While moving to Meadville and Glenwood Avenue might have been the beginning of the end of our family as it was just beginning to start, it also lead all of us to new journeys, new experiences and growth in our own way. I can't imagine how my life or our lives would have turned out had we not moved as difficult as the entire situation was while we were going through it.

Like the old adage goes, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

It turned out exactly the way it was supposed to be, and so will this new change, this new leg of the journey. Perhaps now, my canvas will help me sort through the changes as I put the pieces of the puzzle back together again.

*****

Till we meet again, the best way to get ahead, is to move forward.

Just move forward.

A Nest of Her Own

Here is my latest artwork:

"A Nest of Her Own"

((((Description taken from my Etsy Shop))))
Created on wood about 1/4 inch thick. Original piece included in my Series of "Altered Thoughts of Women". 1st two pieces in the series are now sold--be the third to own one of my quiet inspiration pieces, which gives a voice to my growing self realization that I am worthy as a woman, deserving as person, and growing into my own skin now as an adult.

In this piece, I convey my desire to have "A Nest of My Own", not just a home of my own, but I long to live somewhere that I can plant my roots and truly belong. I have always loved botanicals and incorporating flowers in my paintings, as flowers give me hope. Representing the roots and beauty I so desire in my life. Have you ever felt this way?? Hopefully this original artwork will speak to you and you can give her a good home.

There is a ton of texture and detail embedded within this piece, as well as areas of metallic sheen achieved by dusting pearl ex powders over the layers---so much to discover!!

This artwork comes UNFRAMED. Sides are painted and back has been finished. Can be framed or set on an easel for easy portable (and affordable original art)!

Thank you everyone for the sweet comments on my new do. How come no one told me that one side is longer than the other?? LOL I need to go back this week and even myself out a bit. Unless, I walk around with my head tilted most of the time!

Hope everyone had an artfully great weekend!!

*****update: Also available in my etsy shop is REFLECTIONS IN THE SUN !! stop by and check it out!

WIP--Name that Painting

Wow! It's been awhile since I've blogged. I've been down and outright sickly from last Wednesday through Monday of this week with a case of strep throat, ear infection, fever, migraine...you name it. The good news is that I lost five pounds. Now--for the other 35 I want to loose!! It's been a chore to get anything done this week but I did manage to get started with my color challenge project I'm doing with the new team I joined on Etsy, called METSY (mixed media artists on Etsy). We picked a color palette from an ultra cool website I'll have to back through my favorites and try to find...believe me if you click on the website, you'll be lost in a sea of colors and be lucky to escape alive :). We voted on some of the top color palettes the team chose and the winner was this one called "Purple blossom". Our challenge is to create a piece or two of work that we can sell in our etsy stores as well as use to promote each other in treasuries and blogs. The deadline is April 30th--so I'm moving along pretty decently for me, little last minute lucy ;)
Isn't this color combo cool?? Reminds me of walk in the garden at dusk. I'm not sure if I see purple in it, but that's what the curator of this color palette chose to call it. Maybe I do.

I started with a blurry drawing of my vision--loosely inspired by one of my 5000 magazine cut out inspiration photos so I'm not exactly where it came from other than my box of cut outs.

This is a piece of thin wood board, sanded and primed with gesso and then I brayered some yellow green on the base using a piece of textured wall paper.

Next, I lightly drew the main image of the girl holding the flowers and her skirt. Added a second layer of brayered greens as well as scrap papers in various places. For pasting on the papers I purchased a big ole jar of heavy gel medium---it's like a can of crisco modgepodge...lol. It works fabulously!! I had no issues with bubbles on the papers at all as I do with modge podge. It's expensive but I used a 50% off coupon at Michael's so I saved about 9 dollars!!

When you have a layer of glue or varnish on your work, not everything will write over it so you need to either use a charcoal or graphite pencil. That black thingie is a graphite pencil which I dropped on the floor (accidently). It will write over anything!

An example of the textured wall paper used. My Sweet Goodness Sister Jane gave me this wall paper as well as a bunch of other collage goodies that I have been using lovingly. I've used this piece alone about 50 times already!!

For the next step--I tore up bits and bobs of scrap booking papers and some music to create texture on the skirt. I might not be a scrapbooker but the allure of all the delicious papers available is hard for me to pass up anytime I walk in a craft store. I wish Michael's had the variety of papers that Hobby Lobby does. ((Only because Michael's is 15 minutes away from me and HL is an hour....otherwise HL would be my artfix joint of choice)) ;)

First layer of color on the skirt was scrapings of white, then the purplish mauve that I came up with for the challenge. Background you can see coming alive with more greenery. I was watching the Martha show one day (I forget if it was the craft show or regular show) and they featured a shadow garden. I've never heard of a shade garden before but I guess it's one that has only greenery-shade plants and ground cover. It's a place where you can go to just relax and get lost in the shade of the leaves and reflect on your day, your life, your place in the world.
I love that thought. This is where this young girl is going--to her shade garden.

I took this picture at about 10:30 last night so it's a lot darker than the real picture is--but you can see now how it's all coming together with the addition of her bouquet of fresh picked flowers as she heads towards the shade garden.

I'm attempting the scary hand. eeeks. There are some things I am just deathly afraid of painting. I'm still learning and well--I just didn't want this hand to turn out like a claw and ruin the blessed piece!

So far so good. It's hard to tell from this picture but on top of the first skirt layer, I added a layer of paint I made by taking some of my lumiere powders ( you can see the tiny jar of EXPENSIVE powder in the upper left corner) and adding a bit of gel medium glaze. This creates a translucent layer of color. Lots of fun being an Art Scientist! I'm not quite sure what I'm going to call this yet..but the main feeling I"m trying to convey is that of peace and reflection....any ideas? Hopefully this piece will be finished by next week so I need your input! Should we cast a vote for the name???? Please chime in if you want to title this latest work!!

I will send you a small prize if I pick your name!!
***

I have about 4 other pieces in the works right now, it's just slow going as I spent the majority of the last several days on the couch. My glands were so swollen on the right side of my neck, i looked like a freakin football player. Thank goodness that has started to go down...my neck doesn't need to be any bigger than it already is!!

I'm on vacation the rest of this week so hopefully I can knock out a bunch of projects and get my house in order. This last week I've read chapters in my book The Secret on Money, Relationships and Health. To play along, I'm going to have a yard sale (soon) in preparation for a move. Am I moving anywhere?? No, not yet. But it says in the book, if you want something, act like it's already yours, see it, feel it, believe it..and the universe will start to align itself so it will indeed be yours. What does that have to do with a yard sale?? Well, heck, I don't want to move all this stuff for when I get a new home!! Heck no! I'm going to get rid of stuff my rapidly growing boys don't play with, fit into, or don't want anymore--Mama is going to clear out her closets, cupboards--and pair down as well.
It also says if you want to be in a relationship--you shouldn't have full closets in your bedroom. There's no room for anyone else if you have a full closet. Hmm. I didn't know it was that easy of a fix. I would have cleaned out those dang things awhile ago had I known! Once they are clean and ready to go...I'll let you know then if you have a rich brother or uncle--or heck, grandpa...let me know!! ;) Okay maybe not grandpa but definitely brother or uncle. :) LOL

Have an artfully great day!
