I don't know about you but during the cold weather months, I like to take my artsy mojo to a comfy chair, maybe grab a cup of ummm...coffee...depending on the time of day of course ,and just create in my journal or sketchbook. It's the artists way of nesting, I guess! It's also a great way to 'stock up' on ideas for future projects and have a fun visual diary of sorts to reference back when you need it.

My favorite thing to do is to create as many very colorful backgrounds when I am pressed for time. Later on, those backgrounds speak to me so I know how to use them. I love Jodi Ohl's art and have learned so much from her lifebook teaching and her beautifully colored art!

With the short daylight hours, I notice that my desire to create takes a plunge. The only way to conquer that is to show up anyway - plunk my butt down in my chair, and start playing with materials. Eventually, my muse shows up, a little sleepy, a little grumpy, but once she wakes up, she's happy to come out and play. However, I also give her time to chill out and hibernate - tis' the season, and all.
I pull out all the projects that weren't completed! Wow and there are a lot of those but it gives me the boost to complete or try to master the technique.
Well, my winter has been pretty warm. Being in No. Cal, we really need the snow. How about a sunny little art retreat in Nevada City, CA, Miss. Jodi Ohl??? ;)
If I were fireside, I would continue my work in stitching funky little houses in felt. Inspired by your Cityscapes to do bigger ones!

For me, winter is great to paint near a lamp and keep warm. During the summer I use more medium so the pain won't dry so fast on dry weather, and as a daily thing I keep pens and paper in my purse just to do quick little drawings while waiting for something (kids, the line, food, etc...) :oD
I love "nesting" during our winter months in PA. Time to catch up on things/unfinished projects. I have a harder time in the warm months as I want to be outside. I am working on a solution so I can take my art outside this year. Love your work and would be thrilled to win this class.
Thanks for the awesome collage sheet. Can't wait to use it. I just moved to Colorado from Georgia last year and use snowy weekends to stay in and paint and create. I'm not good at driving in snow and have bald tires. However, I love looking at the snow! I like to make a cup of hot tea, turn on my itunes and paint paint paint.
Get warm, look at magazines and or watch awesome art videos :)

Thank you so much for the beautiful collage sheet! I love to watch YouTube videos of people working in their art journals...if I'm feeling uninspired watching others create almost always makes me want to start creating, too. It's so cold right now where my art area is in the basement, so I have some supplies in our living room so I always have something right there!

I have a pretty full work schedule most days as a freelance writer. It's the whole feast or famine way of life. I keep myself inspired by looking at other people's art and taking small "art breaks" throughout the day. I may not finish an entire piece in one setting but I add something to it every few hours until it's done!
I feel like I have less energy to organize and bring out materials to work on projects when the days are short. Dark = lazy? So I put a small desk in the corner of the living room. I leave a journal and paints and watercolor pencils on the desk. Then I can sit right down and work on a page without spending time to get everything ready.

I hate the cold so my art room is perfect on a cold day. I grab a cup of tea and close the door and it gets nice and warm. I work full time so during the week I like to just work in art journals to just play and explore!

Hi Jodi, I guess what inspires me in this freezing weather, is watching u tube videos and learning new things, taking online classes and eating cookies LOL
Winter is when I do some of my best scheming... I'll grab a journal and brain storm ideas for new creations or the NAMES or DESCRIPTIONS of new creations and then I'll doodle and sketch out the designs. Working with words makes me really happy and that joy is what inspires me a lot of times to move on to the hands on work needed to bring my ideas to life.
For inspiration I search on key words on the web....whatever word pops into my head, then I find pleasing pictures and pin them on my Pinterest. I also rip pages out of magazines and put them in an ideas folder. I also keep a sketchbook/notebook with me so if something pops into my head I can record it.
A big inspiration are my pre schoolers in my class. They are so free and confident I try to create backgrounds, so when I'm ready they are there. Lissag123@verizon.net
I like to make lots of backgrounds at one time, playing with whatever papers, paints, and stamps I have on my desk that day. I find it's a lot easier to move forward with something when I already have a little bit of it created. (Plus, it's inspiring to look at all the pretty backgrounds.)

any time of year, when energy is low and mojo is missing in action…just start cutting. sticking, and glueing…colloquially known as "Sh*t on surface"…it makes me smile to put a big wedge of glue on a surface then chuck the scrapping out of the bottom of the bead drawer on it…flick some paint on, smooth it and smudge it…let it dry, and see what appears...
I have recently started an art journal! When I am not working on that I have been making ATCs and cards! Now I'm retired and have time to enjoy art♥
Winter in my country is quite warm this year...no cold days, no snow...I like to watch videos from my art workshops and I go to the blogs of my art teachers and - always find inspiration :)
since I live in sunny florida it's sunny all the time, but I still enjoy that comfy chair too and reading blogs to get inspiration. Or taking a class from a great teacher like you
I admit to never having been here before Jodi, and found you through Gail's facebook page. But I must say your class looks like a lot of fun, and very different to what I would normally do! Doing something so different can be a good thing I think sometimes, and this is such a lovely giveaway, thank you.
In those 'down times' I find looking back through my mags such as Stampington and Cloth Paper Scissors and books on similar things, will often get me inspired to start creating again.
During these cold winter months, I get some print outs, scissors and a blanket and curl up in my chair and cut images for collage and journaling. I also like to bust out the Gelli plate and get some backgrounds done...so excited for the chance at a spot in your class Jodi...thanks so much for the download too!!!

Hi Jodi. I have a studio off my garage that is on the same zone as my living room. But I have a teeny heater. And since I have a ton of paintings due each month for cancer patients and paintings for my September show, I have to paint. I would like to know about journaling but unless I win I doubt I can do it. Love your classes tho.
I could so use this! I have issues with considering myself to be artistic. I play with paint and art journals but second guess and beat myself up. I love your bright colors and designs! Thanks for the chance to win!

I just posted today, that the only positive thing in regards to these temps, is I am learning color theory. Using my Twinks. In my short bursts of time, I admit heading over to Pinterest to look around and get idea feelers.
I usually head to Youtube and check out videos from my fav artists. Love to watch videos!!!! It fires me up. Thanks for the freebie Jodi. I'm using it on my next journal page. :-)

I enjoy the winter months by snuggling in a comfy chair, cup of herbal tea, sketching, drawing, doodling. I will get motivated to clean the studio and then find unfinished projects....some may actually get finished. I love your work and the vibrant colors...they really speak to me! ART excites me!!!!

Howdy! I joined The Documented Life and it is really helping me be creative everyday because I am using my planner as a gratitude journal. I'm reacquainting myself with colored pencils, pens and markers and really enjoying a daily chasing away of the winter blues!

Hi Jodi! When I get stuck I start by slapping down some gesso. Once dry I squeeze out dollops of 2 colors. I push the paint around with my fingers, sometimes the edge of my hand. I get inspired feeling the paint; feeling the roughness of the gesso. And i can remove any paint I don't like with a baby wipe! Marcie Aspras maspras@hotmail.com

What is Documented Life?
My favourite thing is to have a variety of baskets with each project ready to go. If I'm in the mood for embroidery, I take that basket to work on .... and so on and so on. The prettier the basket the more inspired I am. Thank you for this generous giveaway!
When I am feeling stuck a good long cardio workout does the trick. I become so focused on my breathing that my mind clears out the cobwebs that have collected and Voila!, new ideas and inspirations come to the forefront.
Winter is the time I search for techniques I've never tried and actually try them. Whether from books, YouTube videos, or just seeing something I think I can replicate...but they have to be quick ones and ones without a lot of special supplies needed. Often I just make do with what I have. So winter is experimental time for me...like a mad scientist! maggiebarbour@huxcomm.net

I gather fabrics --some store bought and some precious self-created --- and quilt, quilt, quilt. Nothing like snuggling under a quilt in progress while looking at snow out the window.

My nesting creativity is totally 'stream of consciousness' (or it's ADD). It depends on my mood and what is in front of me, but it is generally sewing scraps, making small quilts, painting/stamping deli sheets or priming canvases. Then again, sometimes it's a great time to clean, purge and organize the work space:)
