Technical Help Needed!

I'd really like to put my own banner up on my header. Can someone give me technical assistance using this picture just for practice??
:) lucy
****Sarah worked with me last nite and this is as far as we got. Everything stretches with my banner for some reason.**** Once I remove the code in the last post (just the header code with the new url pasted), my posts, size, borders and format goes back to normal. I took out all the color and changed the template temporarily to get this to work.
***Any other techies that have advice would be appreciated!****

Hey Lucy, if you are using the minima template, I just created a fake blog to see if this would work, and it did, so here is how I changed the code:
#header {
width:800px;
height:160px;
background:url("http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j161/pinkvintageprincess/berryheader.jpg") no-repeat;
margin: 5px;
border: 1px solid $bordercolor;
text-align: center;
color:$pagetitlecolor;

I just plopped the photo URL and the size thing underneath the first #header I saw.

Hey there,

Sarah is correct, if you're using the new "beta" template.

Basically, I think all you need to add is the "background:url" part, no-repeat, and prolly the margin to that "#header" section in the code.

You'll probably also want to crop the image you're using, otherwise, blogger will stretch your current image to fit the size of the header, which is 800 pixels wide by 160 pixels tall. It looks like your current image is 328 (width) x 177 (height), so you may want to use a higher res image to start with when/if you redo the immage

Like Sarah said, be sure to go to the section "#header" though - very important :)

Hope this makes sense...I hope I didn't get too technical...I do web sites by day

Hi Lucy,
Sent out the package today to Chris. I hope she likes it! What's going on with you? Have you received yours? I'm dying to see what other people have gotten.
Oh and I've finally gotten around to posting my swap package. :-)

Sarah--I owe you a million cyber dollars for staying up with me trying to work this out, so my new cry of help is why in the world is everything stretching??

When the banner is not up, my posts are back to normal. When we post the banner, everything stretches and the only thing we changed is the banner section.

Thanks again, and for anyone with idea, please help :)

Oh yeah, that is what mine looked like, too, when I tried Sarah's trick. It did work to change my background though. Maybe you need to change your template? We have the same one and perhaps the others are more condusive to photos? But don't listen to me, I have no clue.

I think it has to do with the size of the banner. First, try removing the width and height codes and leave the picture url in and see what that does.

Sorry you didn't get your page to work. I was checking back to see if you had figured it out and saw a couple of different times that you had it working but your right, all of the wording stretched. Not sure why it would do that unless you didn't close the header. If you want to give it another chance, let me know and I will try to help you out.

Hey Lucy,

This is in response to your question at blogatech. I'm not sure how to advise you not knowing what site your having problems with. If this is the blog your trying to add a header to, it has the new Blogger layouts style of template and the instructions you were reading only apply to the old style blogger or what they now call a Classic template. To add a custom header to New Blogger, check out this post

Click Here

P.S. If adding a image is throwing off the alignment your image is prolly to big. Follow the instructions in the post above closely and you will get what your looking for.

Good Luck!
