This is probably the closest I will come to having my name up in lights, and guess what..I'll take it! I wanted to share a little peek at my work featured in this month's issue of Cloth Paper Scissors "Graffiti Doodle Houses" and give you a fun opportunity to win a signed copy and one of the pieces
featured in the article!
I'm beyond thrilled at how the article turned out, my pieces were showcased so nicely and it's always fun to see your name in print!!!
"The Small Things" (You can win this piece pictured above!)
All of these pieces were completed on wood, recycled wood that I actually, believe it or not, cut myself! Even the shaped houses! I'm lucky to have a good friend *Mary N. of " Mary's Funky Fish"
who, bless her heart, is teaching me how to use power tools. Kind of a scary thought, truthfully. I have to say though it's empowering to do things you have always had other people do for you or relied on others to get done. I want to do more of those type of things in 2014..not necessarily just cutting my own wood..but learning how to do all sorts of tasks that I previously washed my hands of or never attempted. I think that in doing so, it can help build confidence.
I've been working on this series of fun graffiti doodle style houses for awhile now, probably about 2 years and yet I still find that I get such a thrill out of designing fun make believe little worlds or villages.
I love the thought of finding a happy place where you feel comfortable, wanted, and amongst friends. That true sense of community where life is good and fun. Yes..in a lot of ways, I have found that place of my own...in a lot of ways, I'm still searching for all the components to truly make it ideal. Until it all comes together, I will continue to build these colorful villages and hopefully they will transport both myself and those that will come to own them, into world that first and foremost, makes you smile.
I'd love for you to have one of these pieces and a signed copy of the magazine, so let's get this giveaway started!
How to enter? Simply leave me a comment and tell me one place you like to go to that brings a smile to your face, perhaps it's a pizza place that you and your friends gather every Friday night. Maybe it's the boardwalk street down at your favorite beach or the once a year fair that comes to your town every July. Little pockets of memories that bring you joy...that's where the story of our lives reside.
Enter to win today through Friday! Winner will be chosen this Saturday, January 18th, 2014.
:) Jodi

How wonderful love the magazine and your beautiful art!! The place that brings smiles to me when visiting would be our home place it's a 1950's service station with an apartment upstairs that we lived in for many years!
I like to go on the lake in my canoe. Makes me smile inside and out.
Hi Jodi. The place that makes me most comfortable is my girlfriend's house in Southwest Harbor ME on Mt Desert Island Near Acadia National Park. She has known me since I was about six months old. She has known my parents and grandmother and both my husbands. She applauds my effort in art but is not critical of life's choices.
My happiest place is where ever I am with all my kids. Having grown ones means we don't spend a lot of time together. I treasure every second I get with them.
My place is my studio and gallery and being surrounded by all the wonderful artwork, especially yours!
the place i'd like to go is the lake where i grew up, in my little boat paddling around, looking for lily pads, fish and turtles enjoying the peace and quiet...
Oh, congrats on the article...will have to make sure I find that issue. My happy place is anywhere with water...so that could be the ocean, a lake or a waterfall. Just love the sound. Calms my mind.
Beautiful art work , would love to own one of your piece. The place I love to go,is the beach and I am lucky to live in Florida. Only 7 miles from the beach :)
Sam & Ella's Pizza in Tahlequah, Oklahoma! Funny name, delicious pizza! It is downtown just a few blocks from the college I attended, so many good memories there!
THE OCEAN !!!!! Any Ocean !! The waves, the salty air , ahhhhhh
Congrats on the article! my favorite place is the mountains where I can take in the beautiful scenery and relax! It's only 4 hours away but unfortunately I haven't gone in years! Hopefully soon!
Cant wait to see your CPS article! I would love to go back to savannah for a vacay! Congrats!
You know I'm crazy about your work! A chance to win a piece, heck yea!
Jodi, anyplace I go, with my husband in tow, is the place that makes my heart glow!
Thanks for the opportunity to win a piece of YOUR art . . . . . . . WOW!
Annette
congratulations on your magazine article! I love, love, love art with houses!!!! Walking along the red sand of the beaches of Prince Edward Island puts a smile on my face and heart but I haven't been there for about 10 years!
XOXO Congratulations on your mag. feature!!! NC forest, middle of a special stream I got/gave first kiss from my hubby....sigh....Allison
That's easy! Quaint ocean towns of my past. Whether it's Scituate Harbor, Mass., Humarock, Mass. or way, way, up in Port Clyde, Round Pond, New Harbor or Tenants Harbor, Maine. There's nothing like a living, breathing, oceanside town. Preferably one with sail masts clanking, fishing boats unloading and seagulls swooping.
Hi Jodi - congrats on getting your name in LIGHTS!!! That is awesome! I would go back to this farm my dad had - it was a great place for me and my siblings to spend time together as "grown ups" playing games, singing songs by the campfire, eating fabulous meals prepared mostly by my wonderful mother, sleeping 8 - 10 of us in one big room - so many memories of those times.
Anywhere I can be on the water in my kayak is my favorite place! I would love to win the painting.
Congrats on the great feature! My beautiful place is here in England on the south-western tip. A stunning little beach accessible only by a path down the cliffs, The bright blue Atlantic ocean pounding the shore with the surfers showing off their skills. Huge boulders and rock pools to explore. And peace. This place makes me smile to myself, and breathe and fully relax like no other place can. :)
Congrats on getting your projects in CPS! I was so excited for you when I saw it. My favorite place to go besides my studio is the Local Beading store but it is my home away from home. :)
How wonderful to have a chance to win a piece of your art! Congratulations on the article! I love being anywhere in nature with my family, discovering and seeing things together.
Congratulations on your recent CPS article. I just received my issue today and was pleased that it was one of the better issues they have put out in a while.;
I am happiest when spending time with my daughter and her family. They love the outdoors as do I and we enjoy hiking, kayaking and exploring the places we visit. Those times are especially meaningful to me because we lost our 26 year old son 8 years ago to a fire. There's no replacing him, but having them in my life has saved mine.
I like to go to our Gazebo in our backyard:-)
Beautiful work. I love to go to my family's ranch in Montana. The sunsets are breathtaking. They fill me with wonder and peace. Nora
The beach on St. George Island Fl. Just thinking about it brings a smile to my face.
congrats Jodi. I always enjoy seeing your work in the magazines. Your art brings a smile to my face always, but if I have to pick a place it would be barnes and nobles and hobby lobby. Sorry but yes I have to. I can spend hours in both places and they really do always make me happy. :)
Jodi Congrats on your article I love you work I love the colors they are so grabbing
It is so exciting to see a feature in a magazine by an artist that you are familiar with ~ I've taken one of your classes. Loved the article and love the art!!!
I live in Virginia now, but when I visit the little city in Ohio where I grew up, it makes me smile to visit the street I lived on. The houses, that seemed so big back then, are all so small. But it was a great loving neighborhood and I hold many happy memories of time living there.
A special place I like to be is at my daughters house on Lake Michigan. The whole family, my four children, their spouses and my ten grandchildren have a wonderful long weekend in the summer getting together, swimming, laughing and eating. I have a craft time for the kids too which we all love!
Looks FABULOUS!!! And yahoo for the article in CPS!!
Our annual family camping trip to our favorite lake, Sugar Lake :)
So peaceful and relaxing, always a smile on this face!
Thank you
Congrats!! How Cool, My place would be our cottage on a lake in northern Mi. Always fun when the family is there.
Dear Jodi,
Congratulations on the article in Cloth paper scissors....I can't wait to get a copy to read it. Your work is refreshing.
The place where I would like to be is in Vancouver, BC, with my Aunt who I was fortunate to get to see last year after not seeing her for over 10 years.
One of my favorite places is Random Arts in Saluda...it's so relaxing just going up and hanging out cause there's always someone to share ideas with or that just share the same interest.
Jodi, I love to see how your work has evolved over the years. I have this issue of the magazine and so glad they featured you!! My favorite place to go is the mountains. It's why I moved to Colorado last year. I get to see the Rockies every day!
Going camping near the beach always brings a smile to my face. Congrats on appearing in the magazine and thanks for the chance to win!
I've used your graffiti houses as inspiration to try my own. Congrats on the magazine publication.
The place I enjoy most these days is when I travel to SC and to spend time with my 6 year old nephew. Art making together is always a hilarious adventure that brings laughter and smiles for months.
Heck yeah! Congratulations, Jodi! Oh gosh, I really love to go to the Ho rainforest on the Olympic Peninsula. I am also SUPREMELY happy on the plaza in Santa Fe. Good, good stuff.
The north Georgia mountains in the spring when all the beautiful colors are dancing about the landscape gives me a relaxing feeling, and such inspiration I just want to create.
My favorite place is anywhere where people are telling stories, laughing as hard as a body can laugh and creating art...any age, anybody, anywhere! Congratulations.
Hi Jodi.... I LOVE your art. And I love snowmobiling with my grandkids.
Congratulations! Love those houses! I love to sit at the lake and watch the sunset.
These are beautiful! I grew up in San Diego and now live on the east coast. On my rare chances to visit my old hometown, I find that something just feels "right" when I step off the plane. I don't know if it's the quality of light, or the terrain, or something in the air, but I breathe easier. Hmmm... I think I'm due for a trip!
There is this wonderful place in Ware town NJ that is my therapeutic retreat. It is Green Acres Barn, an antiques/consignment mecca! Connie, the owner, converted her barn into a two story haven of wonderful treasures. Every room or section is chock-ful of unique, old and some new items just bursting with charm and maybe a little "push" to be creative. How many times I found something begging me to take it home and give it some love!! Every piece is priced right too, so you can visit with a few bucks in your pocket. Whenever I need peace and tranquility, I stop there. But truth be told, sometimes there are quite a few people there in which case I can tune out conversations and sort of meditate among the wonder fullness of all that "stuff"!
Love your work - always makes me smile - brightens my day!!
Kim K.
Jodi, my favorite place to go is Leach Lake in Minnesota, by the time you get to the cabin the road is so twisty you don't know if you are facing North or South.
Lost while you know where you are.. the loons call the birch tree shimmer. Ah, yes, delightful!!

These are so cute and funky! My favorite place to go is the Virginia Beach Boardwalk Art Show! It's right on the boardwalk so you not only get to see some awesome works of art but get to enjoy the beautiful beach and ocean. I LOVE IT!
My favorite place is simple, sitting on my chaise lounge on the patio, taking in the scenery and the breeze, with a glass of iced tea and surrounded by all my favorite magazines (including Cloth Paper Scissors). It would be an honor to have a signed copy with me :)
My favorite place is my little farm where I can see beautiful sunsets, a pond, rolling pastures, wildlife, and trees! Gotta have trees! You know I love your artwork and I'm so happy for your success and another publication! Lynn Ovenden
I would love a mountain cabin with a creek running close enough I could hear it
Congratulations! So happy for you. A place that always brings a smile to my face is a flea market or antique bazaar with multiple little booths. It always sparks memories of happy times and loving people. Sometimes I find a treasure to take home, and sometimes just have a blessed stroll down memory lane. Always, though, I leave with my creativity in high gear!
Yay on your feature piece! I'm enjoying your online classes too.
One place I like to go to that brings a smile to my face: A long lunch at my favorite restaurant with a good book.
Congratulations on your article Jodi! Wonderful! I would love one of your beautiful colorful pieces. Your work always inspires me. Thank you for this generous giveaway!
Lovely piece in a great magazine! And am loving your bravery with power tools too! My favourite place is a gelati shop in my favourite beachside holiday town on the Sunshine Coast in Australia.
My favorite places to go are where my grandkids are. I love going to the high school football games to see my grandson in the marching band. I love to see my granddaughter performing her karate moves and I love watching my youngest granddaughter playing soccer...such fun!
We have a great big hill on the far side of our farm and when you reach the top you can look out over the entire valley and our farm.
It's the most amazing view and so peaceful, there are lots of native birds and plants and I love going there at any time of the year, it makes me remember how amazing the land is.
Congrats on the feature, Jodi! You are an inspiration to us all, and your artwork always makes my heart smile. The place that I have found to bring me such joy these days has been a small studio set up in my drum instructor's garage. I have been a homeschooling, stay-at-home mom for a few years now and like most moms can probably agree, I found myself lost in the midst of always giving to my family. I felt I needed to do something for myself so as crazy as it sounds, I decided to pursue a childhood interest of drumming! When I sit behind the drums in the studio, I feel like I can be free to be myself. I would love to win an art piece of yours and display it on my wall behind my new drumset to remind myself it's never too late to follow your dreams!
You are crazy talented! Wow! I love that feeling when I drive down my Mom's street as I'm coming into town for Christmas. Thee's nothing quite like going home!

:) I'm happy at home right where I am and of course thrift stores.
I'm happiest at the beach by the ocean. Everything about the beach tickles my senses. There's a sense of limitless freedom the ocean brings and I love to feel like I'm floating above the Earth observing it's collective magnificence.
I love the zoo! Thanks!
Pass-a-Grille...heaven

What a wonderful giveaway of your scrummy art. what place makes me smile? well I have to say my art room. i walk in there and I am greeted by colour and vibrancy and life, and stories and memories all contained in the things I make and more so in the tags and cards and other bits that people send to me. it literally lifts my spirit, my heart to be in here.
but there is one other place. I grew up only 5 mins walk from the beach, but now I am a 15 mins drive away. A busy life makes me forget how much i love the coast. whenever i go there, as soon as the coast is in view i feel different somehow. I cannot fully explain it, but looking out to sea brings me enormous peace.
OMG! I almost missed the contest not having checked your site for awhile.

Hi Jodi - love your magical art - and congrats on being in this lovely magazine! My happy place is on the water in my kayak -- being out in nature!
PS love your work
I like to go on a drive through the country. It's peaceful, relaxing and often I find a nice quiet place to pull over and write or take photos.
My favorite place is my bed for a nap in the afternoon. I feel like I'm playing hookey when I crawl under our thick comforter and snuggle in. The house is empty, and I generally end up with cats piled on top of me. I inevtably wake up with a brightened perspsctive and a happy glow.
The weekly trip to the Library makes me smile. I love libraries and have since childhood. Libraries get visited on vacation.
It's funny, the other place I always go on vacation is tattoo parlors. I do not have any personal ink, but collect the business cards of tattoo artists.

truly at peace and happy anytime I am near a natural body of water, trails to wander weaving in and out around water just tops it all off.

I love your brave and wild use of colour - I tend to stick with the neutrals plus pale blues - but this has really inspired me to experiment with colour - and on wood too!!!

Arriving at our houseboat on the coast of Maine makes me the happiest. Overwhelming calm, quiet peace, lots of sleep :)
Hi Jodi...I created a similar project for CPS last year titled 'City of Refuge' where I utilized reclaimed wood cut into the shape of small houses though with paintings of chairs inside. Your work is absolutely beautiful. My happy place is either here, walking around my town and visiting a local café or an hour away visiting Banff in the Rocky Mountains. :)
Congrats Jodi!! Your artwork is just BEAUTIFUL!! My favorite place that makes me smile is heading out to the hiking trails in the woods... It makes my 2 doggies very happy, too :)
