"Connections" for Haiti, Art Auction to assist with Disaster Relief

A few months ago, I participated in a challenge posed to the Carolina Mixed Media Guild by Jerry's Artarama called, "The World of Art Challenge" featured at the Art of the Carolina's in November 2009. My fellow guild members and I were given art supplies of all sorts along with bits and bobs to use to interpret the theme of this enterprise. It was a challenge for me because I'm really (believe it or not) much of an assemblage artist. I can do paper and a variety of art supplies but incorporate much more than that and my heart starts beating 500 miles a minute and sweat beads off of my forehead.

Forged ahead I did and what came from seemingly unrelated pieces of this and that, and colors to use of paint that I don't normally incorporate in my work (reds and purples) was this piece which I titled "Connections". As art connects us in way that language has it's barriers, we are all God's children no matter what color our skin is, or what native words we use to communicate, we are one. When a child needs help, it is our duty to reach out and lend a hand.

I'm honored to say I won 2nd place for my interpretation of this challenge, my first ever placing in any sort of contest. It actually was my first contest entered honestly. I'm not one to put myself in a position to be judged normally. I like to lay low...lol. Anyway, my love for this piece is immense because of all the wonderful memories and friends I have made through the Carolina Mixed Media Guild, it was the first organization I joined that was art related as I embarked on my journey as an artist, and one that I've made so many good friends and mentors with.

It is my honor to donate this piece for the disaster relief in Haiti. I am going to try to auction it off on my blog first in hopes to raise as much as I can for the cause.

The proceeds will go to Doctors Without Borders or The American Red Cross. The winning bidder may choose the organization they would like me to donate the proceeds to.

Help the disaster relief by bidding on "Connections". The devastation is beyond words, so every little bit helps. I can't really imagine what those people are going through and have gone through, there is such sadness in my heart. This is my way of helping, by giving a piece that has special meaning to me, hopefully it will touch your heart as well.

Would you believe that I posted the same bid but first we had a power outage and next the internet went down. But here I am again and will bid $60. It would be such an honor to have one of your pieces in my home. Thank you so much for doing this.
