Holly Festival 2007

Pinehurst, North Carolina

10/21/2007

These pictures were taken as Josh and I walked from our car to the Holly Festival last Saturday. The upper left photo is the elite Pinehurst Resort Spa, called "The Spa" :)--It's gorgeous, grand, and ever so out of my pocket book reach!
This festival is a 2 and 1/2 street craft and art show in Pinehurst, NC little downtown area and it really is the best street craft show around. Okay, since I never get out, it's one of the only ones I go to, but it's a good one at that! ;) Lots of cool jewelry, mixed media arts, home made candles, pottery, fine arts, photography, modern americana, hand sewn goodies and more galore.
What I noticed about this festival compared to others is the quality of displays. There were some vendors that had true mini stores within there 10x10 space (or whatever it was, I forgot my measuring tape). It's challenging me to think outside of the box if I want to do a show this coming spring. I want my displays to be unique and attractive for the customers eye, not just plopped down on a vinyl tablecloth camping table. LOL I've been to shows like that ;) Another thing I noticed was that people were buying from vendors that had a variety of price points. The price points were scattered out throughout the displays as well, in a effort to keep the patron enticed by looking for those hand made bargains mixed among the gems that were a little higher priced. Interesting--I'm going to try to make several items in price ranges 5 and under; 5-10; 10-20, and 20-50--the challenge is getting it done and actually following through with doing the show!~ I think I'll list everything I make on etsy in the mean time--why let it sit?? Right??
Speaking of etsy--I sold another painting but---I think I got screwed on the shipping. Let's hope not--I did something against my better judgement--anyway I'll let you know how it turns out on Monday. Keep your fingers crossed it turns out for me!

Other news--DS is quite the character. Yesterday as I was working into the night finishing up some paintings, he comes up to me and shrugs his shoulders. Leaning on one foot and sighing..."Mom......I don't know how to tell you this...." What Son, what's a matter? (I'm imagining somethings broken, lost, or needs to be bought for his playing pleasure)
"Well, it's just that....it's just that you do art every night. Don't you think you should take a break? You are going to run out of stuff!"
What are you trying to say Josh? What should Momma be doing?
"Well, you could be watching Tv"
I do watch TV while I'm doing "art".
"Well, you could be relaxing with me watching a movie"
We do watch movies together, Josh.
"I know, but it's just that, you should be spending time with your son."
STABBING
ME
ALIVE
choke
"You're right, I should be spending more time with you....."
Wahhhhhh
Bad Momma
LOL
******
You can't win for loosing. I guess my son is trying to reach out to me so we are taking an Art break this weekend! :)
Taking off to the beach for Saturday and Sunday--see ya soon!

Okay, Josh, just rip out your Momma's heart! Hand him his own paint brush and do art together, after you watch the movie of course...LOL!

(congrats on your etsy sale! Wa-hoo!!)

I think you're smart to do things at different price points for a show. Definitely give people options, and hopefully that will lead to bigger sales! :)

I'm also trying to do the different price points thing. I'm going to make some ornaments for $5 or $10 to go with my $30-$35 purses.

I also occasionally get screwed with postage. Prices went up last spring and they're so high now! But I don't want to scare off buyers with too high of shipping. Hard to balance.

I am not sure why, but your line "I think I got screwed on the shipping." Has me laughing...like it should be a t-shirt!!!

A wide variety of prices is always a good thing. Everyone should walk into your booth and feel like they can at least get something small.
