Day 6....One and Only..... and a SALE!

First off.....4 more days till Christmas!!!! whooooohooooo!  I can't believe it's almost here.  YIKES...I'm not ready! LOL  I'm excited though, can't wait to see the look on my boys faces as they open up a few special things. There is one gift each of them are receiving that i think is just so funny...the look on their faces should be priceless!
I know that it may be a little late to send  gift to your special someone from my shop but you can ALWAYS treat yourself to an after Christmas holiday gift purchased at Sweet Repeats Studio Shoppe, my online shop!  Added bonus points...I'm offering a 25% off coupon off your entire purchase (not including commission work) from now until Christmas Eve.  So what are you waiting for?  Check out some of my NEW updates this week.....several new pieces loaded to the shop :)))

How to redeem?  Simply type Holiday2011 in the coupon code portion of your shopping cart and your purchases will be reduced by 25%  whoooohooo!
Thank you so much for all of your support and encouragement all year long!!
Day 6 of my Morning After Challenge.....Can you guess what song I was listening to before and during the creation of this page??  I can tell you I was swoooooonnning over it. I love love love the song.  If you don't  know I will share a link at the bottom of this post. Wouldn't want to leave you hanging!
I used watercolors, prismacolor pens, white gel pen, and I also incorporated Neocolor II crayons for the soft look of her skin and face.
She is just a character I created, no real portrait copy....just a pretty little girl waiting for her knight in shining armor to come and sweep her off her feet.
Hmmmm well she may be me after all :)  I have a little bigger boobs then her and curlier hair. haha!
I'm so loving this challenge and hope you are too..I have more ideas swirling around my head.   The best thing is that it is allowing me to try things I've been wanting to try but haven't made the time.....making the time for things you love and the people you love is what life is all about.  Why wait?
Have a wonderful day, hold tight to the season.....hug those around you and create and live with joy. Life is too short otherwise.

With love and Gratitude,
Jodi Ohl

Online Workshop Sale and MORE!!!!

Here we go kids...I promised all month long that I would dish out some AWESOME specials, giveaways, sales and more throughout my "Grand Opening" so to speak of Sweet Repeats Studio Shoppe,  Art by Jodi Ohl  so let's continue the momentum of this POST  (hurry  time runs out on the 5th to enter)and keep the fun going!   What's up next?  As some of you may know, one of my creative partners is Gail Schmidt of Shabby Cottage Studios and  Creative Workshops
...Gail took me under her wing helped me get started hosting online mixed media workshops, most of which I've held over at her Creative Workshop site over the last few years.  I have to say, that the teaching experience and technical skills I have gained from instructing online has been invaluable to me as an  emerging artist and creative teacher.   I've met so many wonderful individuals who have taken my workshops that it really just keeps inspiring me to do more and more and more.  If you have yet to take one my classes this is the PERFECT time  join in on the fun.  For the ENTIRE month of October, I will be offering a Buy One, Get One 50% sale on three of my classes :

Fun with Faux Encaustic
Heck...since you are here right now....let's not wait until October first kiddies...let's start the sale now!
How do you take advantage of this special?  Purchase any two workshops of the three and you will get a REFUND for 1/2 of the second workshop. Our shopping cart doesn't allow for bogos but this is one way we can work around the system!    This gives you a savings of $22.50 off the regular price of one of the workshops.  That's a hard deal to beat especially since the work shops are OPEN ENDED which means they are a self study course throughout which you can watch the videos over and over again at your convenience (if you are like me and up at 3:00 am...you can watch the videos and create alongside of me:) The workshops are guaranteed to be up for at least one year so you will have PLENTY of time to take the courses and work through all of the projects.      Click on any of the above images or links to read more about the classes.  *Remember this special is off my classes only and will end on October 31st.
I'm going into day three of my new job and I can tell you that life is crazy, chaotic at times, exciting, a little stressful (mostly because of all my to-dos), and through it all I'm still loving it :)  I would hope so with only three days into the adventure...lol...but I digress....one of the BIG events I've been preparing new work for is the Norcross Art Festival in Ga this weekend (October 1st and 2nd).  I am THRILLED to go back for the second year in a row.  Even without an art show, the town of Norcross is delightful and charming, add 135 or so artists and a festival that is top notch, well you have all the makings of a fantastic time.  Featured here are two of my new pieces I'll be bringing to the show which are slightly different then my current work...I do like to play with abstracts every here and there and these pieces contain all the facets of my style (texture, layers, slightly grungy, edgy,) but in a more subdued color palette.  Okay so I did add some pops of bold colors but who's counting! ;)
This is my favorite of the new pieces, "Baby Gemstones" 12 x 12.  I love the little delicate bubbles appearing as well as the rich texture that begs to be touched.  What does the change in 'programs' say about me?  Not sure...lol...maybe its just saying that a girl can change her 'wardrobe' every here and there...sometimes we need to change our direction a bit to find the best route to get to the place we heading towards in the first place.  Not saying I'm going in this direction forever, it's perhaps a 'rest stop' along the way as I take a breather before moving on to my next collection.  Ya...that's a good way to put the change in direction. It's welcome rest stop along the way.  I hope you love it as much as I do.  If you are in the neighborhood, please stop in my booth and say hi this weekend!  I better get going...still lots more to do. I may not sleep for 4 days friends!  Someone PLEASE bring me some coffee!!  xoxo Jodi

Lots of Creative Goodness!

Whoooosh!  Lots going on here over the last few weeks and it doesn't stop here....my artful life is gearing up for one busy season this summer and into the fall and I couldn't be more excited to share this awesome news.....my blog is featured in the new issue of Artful Blogging!! Amazing is all I can say!  I've been drooling over this publication ever since it came out and loving all the featured artists and writers issue after issue, and now....here it is, I'm actually a part of the publication!  Talk about a dream come true.  They featured LOTS of my art as well as several journal pages....I'm kinda half blushing over a few of the entries I had on the journal pages...lol...I was in a very sad ticked off mood when I completed one of the pages last year and wouldn't you know, that's one that they chose to feature!  Maybe it was that emotion that resonated with the editors, whatever is the case, I'm happy to share myself with those that are interested in my art or even ramblings about my topsy turvy life!  If you haven't seen the issue on your news stands, you can purchase online HERE.

I'm super excited to be traveling to Ga for the art festival in Dunwoody!  I've never done this show before but I heard it is one not to miss, so if you are in the Dunwoody/Atlanta Ga and available this Mother's Day weekend, be sure to plan on visiting the festival!   Added bonus, there will be plenty of opportunity to pick up a beautiful and unique gift for Mom! (can you spy one of my paintings in their website banner???!!!!)
Lots of 'goings' on, be sure to check out the Spring issue of my Artsy Newsletter by clicking HERE.

Last weekend we enjoyed a wonderful turn out for the annual arts and crafts festival in Southern Pines, NC "Spring Fest".   It is now my 3rd  year doing this show which was also my first show ever. Hard to believe it's been that long!!
For more pictures of my booth during the show, please click on HERE to go to my flickr photo set.

That's about all for now...Thank you from the bottom of my heart for stopping by and sharing your precious time with me!  Until next time,  may you have lots of moments of laughter, joy, and creative goodness in your world.
Hope to see you in GA this weekend!

Enjoy a bit of Sweetness on me!

I have to admit, Valentine's Day  hasn't been my favorite holiday lately--but I do love what it symbolizes and love creating art that is sweet and romantic, imagining in my creative world love as it should be.  Pure and simple and unconditional.  In honor of this holiday that I truly want to Love....I'm offering a vary special coupon code to my online store:
Sweet Repeats Studio Shoppe
Simply add the code:
and receive 20% your purchase!  Now that's sweet!!
OFFER GOOD NOW through  2/14/2011
So maybe in 2011 I'll find what I'm looking for instead of being held back by my past, wanting someone to be something they never were or can be.    Destiny is a funny thing, you never know if you are running along the right path or jogging along in a circle because you've taken the road you weren't supposed to be on.
Eventually you figure it out.  Sometimes it takes a tumble along the road for you to realize it's time to brush off your knees and take a different turn, one that is illuminated once you finally head down that path.
In reality, there is nothing to fear.  Even being alone on Valentine's Day and feeling at peace is better being
with someone and feeling miserable.  Right?  That's what I'm telling myself! :)))

Enough sappy reflection and 'just get over it musings'--head to my shop and enjoy my sale!! :))))

Happy Valentine's Day!

Riding The Wave

Yesterday I walked out in the ocean until I was shoulder deep in the water, and then leaned back and let my legs lift up off the sand. As the water calmly allowed me to float along, I prepared myself for the inevitable wave to rush over me and lead me back to the shore. I was not disappointed. With all the faith I had in me that I would be carried along and not washed under, I felt the power of the tide rise me up from the deepest core. I had no control of where I was going, I only knew that I was moving forward with a rush. It all started with lifting my feet up and giving into what was happening around me. What a peaceful feeling taking your feet out of the sand.

Quick Sale and Other NEWS!!

bianca (430 x 600)
I'm finding when I don't have the energy to paint, I am immensely enjoying playing with Photoshop! This is a photo I hijacked from my lovely niece, Bianca on her facebook page and then I altered it a bit to create cool layers of her portrait. Love it! Isn't if fun to learn a new skill? I am just imagining the possibilities as I explore what else I can do with my art and my amateur photos!

*****Learn the same techniques I used by visting Gail Schmidt's Creative Workshops website and sign up for her class, "How to Create a Digital Collage"!!

brighter days

Speaking of photos/prints--Tonight ONLY I am having a 50% discount sale in my shop for any PRINT or ACEO!!! Simply Convo me with the word SWEET REPEATS in the message line after checking out and I will send you a revised invoice with your new price.

Other news---Don't forget to check out my post below for my new and exciting work shop that will be offered starting July 15th!! I'm really looking forward exploring new techniques and helping others find their creative side through my work shop. Fore more details on this work shop, visit Creative Workshops hosted by Gail Schmidt! I will be offering a free class to one random winner among those that sign up early--prior to June 15th! Spread the word!!!!

In addition to this class, I will be hosting a 1 day workshop at Jerry's Artarama in Raleigh, NC on March 6th, 2010.!!!!! Whoooohoooo. I'm really honored to have been invited to do this project! I'm even more excited because I was invited rather than applied for the opening! My creative world seems to be coming together in so many ways, it's really amazing and I truly feel blessed to have this opportunity as well as many others I have been afforded. The other day I got a call from one of the owners of a shop that I am in to tell me that I had a HUGE sale--I sold my big piece, Spring Journey along with 5 other original paintings to a new collector!! Oh my. To say I about fell out, is an understatement!!!

One thing I have been falling behind in is my blogging and visiting other blogs. There never seems enough time to do it all but I'm trying my best to keep up! To the hell with the laundry when there is so much goodness around to discover...lol!
Hope your week is a creative one!

Has anyone seen the new Artful Blogging? I just love this magazine. I have been reading it, or rather just soaking in all the beauty within this book. I'm so inspired by every story in the magazine. The world truly has become smaller with the invention of blogging. It's comforting to know that there are many, many, kindred spirits in this world just like you and me just waiting to be found, waiting to be heard, and enjoying life when something we say or feel resonates with another like minded individual.

In another one of Stampington's magazines, Life Images, a local artist & photographer who is also part of our Carolina Mixed Media guild, has the cover shot!! Isn't it lovely??? Congratulations Chrysti!

Hope you find a bit of inspiration in your day today!

WOWZA!

Thank you Laura for the suggestion of making my last pieces into cards--that's a great idea, and I just may do that on my next order of prints. I have several things I want to order as soon as I make my quota in order to purchase new 'inventory'...lol.
Are any of you supply junkies?? I'm trying to balance my artsy purchases for supplies with mysales in my shop and it is quite a challenge to stay above the water when I see new things and just want to try try try new things!! I have come to the conclusion, if you want to make money, you need to spend money. That's how I justify my art supply purchases. At least that's what I'm telling myself!!

Hope everyone had a good week. I accomplished a lot but am drained to no end. By taking on some new responsibilities, I have spread myself thin but in the end, it will be a good thing. By stretching your wings and showing initiative, it does pay off in the long run. It's just when does the long run end and the pay off begin?? LOL

Anywhoo--I'm taking a breather from Thrifting this weekend. I'm sure my kidlets will be happy. I need to make 1 major purchase and that's where my money needs to go to right now. Baby boy (7 year old) needs a new bed so we are going to hunt for that this weekend.

But...tonight, I am creating some new pieces for my shop. Take a look around at the new things uploaded this week and last :) Thank you for supporting me and giving me the inspiration to keep on keeping on!!

Have a good weekend!
