So Grateful!

Wow...I just have to say that I've been blown away at the response to my upcoming workshop pre-sale,  "Pod-Tastic",  I was a little hesitant to do a pre-registration sale during Black Friday-Cyber Monday weekend for fear it would get lost in the shuffle with all the other holiday sales and frankly everyone's family time, but you guys have grabbed a hold of what surely is going to be a great way to ring in the new year.  If you didn't hear about the special, the class will retail at 85.00 for unlimited access 24/7 with upwards of 3-5 hours of class content to be released January 7th.

For this weekend through Monday, we are offering a 20.00  off pre-release special.  Maybe you should  tell 'Santa' or any other gift giving elf in your world that you want it for the holidays..wink wink :)    Here is a sample picture of some of my own "Pod" paintings I've done and a peek at what you will be working on too should you decide to join in on this hugely popular class!

I know...fun, right???  As you can see we will be creating colorful loose paintings full of doodles, unique marks, writing, a texture and more.  Journal work and creative prompts will be thrown in for good measure which will keep you inspired for months, perhaps years to come!  The class will open on January 7th but you can take advantage of the sale this weekend during our pre-registration event.

For more information on the class and to sign up, click HERE! :)

Online Workshop Sale and MORE!!!!

Here we go kids...I promised all month long that I would dish out some AWESOME specials, giveaways, sales and more throughout my "Grand Opening" so to speak of Sweet Repeats Studio Shoppe,  Art by Jodi Ohl  so let's continue the momentum of this POST  (hurry  time runs out on the 5th to enter)and keep the fun going!   What's up next?  As some of you may know, one of my creative partners is Gail Schmidt of Shabby Cottage Studios and  Creative Workshops
...Gail took me under her wing helped me get started hosting online mixed media workshops, most of which I've held over at her Creative Workshop site over the last few years.  I have to say, that the teaching experience and technical skills I have gained from instructing online has been invaluable to me as an  emerging artist and creative teacher.   I've met so many wonderful individuals who have taken my workshops that it really just keeps inspiring me to do more and more and more.  If you have yet to take one my classes this is the PERFECT time  join in on the fun.  For the ENTIRE month of October, I will be offering a Buy One, Get One 50% sale on three of my classes :

Fun with Faux Encaustic
Heck...since you are here right now....let's not wait until October first kiddies...let's start the sale now!
How do you take advantage of this special?  Purchase any two workshops of the three and you will get a REFUND for 1/2 of the second workshop. Our shopping cart doesn't allow for bogos but this is one way we can work around the system!    This gives you a savings of $22.50 off the regular price of one of the workshops.  That's a hard deal to beat especially since the work shops are OPEN ENDED which means they are a self study course throughout which you can watch the videos over and over again at your convenience (if you are like me and up at 3:00 am...you can watch the videos and create alongside of me:) The workshops are guaranteed to be up for at least one year so you will have PLENTY of time to take the courses and work through all of the projects.      Click on any of the above images or links to read more about the classes.  *Remember this special is off my classes only and will end on October 31st.
I'm going into day three of my new job and I can tell you that life is crazy, chaotic at times, exciting, a little stressful (mostly because of all my to-dos), and through it all I'm still loving it :)  I would hope so with only three days into the adventure...lol...but I digress....one of the BIG events I've been preparing new work for is the Norcross Art Festival in Ga this weekend (October 1st and 2nd).  I am THRILLED to go back for the second year in a row.  Even without an art show, the town of Norcross is delightful and charming, add 135 or so artists and a festival that is top notch, well you have all the makings of a fantastic time.  Featured here are two of my new pieces I'll be bringing to the show which are slightly different then my current work...I do like to play with abstracts every here and there and these pieces contain all the facets of my style (texture, layers, slightly grungy, edgy,) but in a more subdued color palette.  Okay so I did add some pops of bold colors but who's counting! ;)
This is my favorite of the new pieces, "Baby Gemstones" 12 x 12.  I love the little delicate bubbles appearing as well as the rich texture that begs to be touched.  What does the change in 'programs' say about me?  Not sure...lol...maybe its just saying that a girl can change her 'wardrobe' every here and there...sometimes we need to change our direction a bit to find the best route to get to the place we heading towards in the first place.  Not saying I'm going in this direction forever, it's perhaps a 'rest stop' along the way as I take a breather before moving on to my next collection.  Ya...that's a good way to put the change in direction. It's welcome rest stop along the way.  I hope you love it as much as I do.  If you are in the neighborhood, please stop in my booth and say hi this weekend!  I better get going...still lots more to do. I may not sleep for 4 days friends!  Someone PLEASE bring me some coffee!!  xoxo Jodi

Lots of Creative Goodness!

Whoooosh!  Lots going on here over the last few weeks and it doesn't stop here....my artful life is gearing up for one busy season this summer and into the fall and I couldn't be more excited to share this awesome news.....my blog is featured in the new issue of Artful Blogging!! Amazing is all I can say!  I've been drooling over this publication ever since it came out and loving all the featured artists and writers issue after issue, and now....here it is, I'm actually a part of the publication!  Talk about a dream come true.  They featured LOTS of my art as well as several journal pages....I'm kinda half blushing over a few of the entries I had on the journal pages...lol...I was in a very sad ticked off mood when I completed one of the pages last year and wouldn't you know, that's one that they chose to feature!  Maybe it was that emotion that resonated with the editors, whatever is the case, I'm happy to share myself with those that are interested in my art or even ramblings about my topsy turvy life!  If you haven't seen the issue on your news stands, you can purchase online HERE.

I'm super excited to be traveling to Ga for the art festival in Dunwoody!  I've never done this show before but I heard it is one not to miss, so if you are in the Dunwoody/Atlanta Ga and available this Mother's Day weekend, be sure to plan on visiting the festival!   Added bonus, there will be plenty of opportunity to pick up a beautiful and unique gift for Mom! (can you spy one of my paintings in their website banner???!!!!)
Lots of 'goings' on, be sure to check out the Spring issue of my Artsy Newsletter by clicking HERE.

Last weekend we enjoyed a wonderful turn out for the annual arts and crafts festival in Southern Pines, NC "Spring Fest".   It is now my 3rd  year doing this show which was also my first show ever. Hard to believe it's been that long!!
For more pictures of my booth during the show, please click on HERE to go to my flickr photo set.

That's about all for now...Thank you from the bottom of my heart for stopping by and sharing your precious time with me!  Until next time,  may you have lots of moments of laughter, joy, and creative goodness in your world.
Hope to see you in GA this weekend!

Thank YOU Sale....

I hope your Thanksgving was wonderful, it was so good today to just take my time cooking, not go anywhere, relax, eat good food and enjoy family. Usually it's rush rush rush, work and more work, eat on the go, or eat something whipped up quickly....not really taking time to savor and enjoy it all.  Of course now, I must admit I'm laying in bed with my laptop posting this because I'm worn out from all the festivities. It's a good worn out today though.  Even though I might not fit in my work clothes tomorrow, I'm feeling satisfied and grateful for my many blessings :)

Here's  a THANK YOU  discount to my loyal customers and  potential new friends, after Thanksgiving sale in my Etsy shop tonight and through Friday:

Let's Face It New Online Work Shop and a GIVEAWAY!

Let’s Face It
“A creative discovery of ourselves, using paint, collage, portraits, and journal writing as forms of expression”
By Jodi Ohl

"Let’s Face It" is a new online work shop offered by Jodi Ohl and hosted over at Creative Workshops on ning.  Through videos and written instructions, students will create their own visual journal on a children’s board book focused on exploring their inner selves through portrait painting using a variety of mixed media techniques. “Let’s Face It”, we are constantly reinventing ourselves, discovering who we are, who we were, and where it is that we want to go in the world. How do we want to be remembered when we are gone? What is it that we are truly searching for? We will work on answering some of those questions as we play in the safety of our personal journals. No experience required, just come to class with a healthy desire to learn, explore, and most of all, create! Be ready to get messy and feel INSPIRED!

Open date: September 27th, 2010

Cost: $45.00 plus supplies

Type of class: This class will be offered as an open ended workshop.

Support during the class: Students will have a forum where they can chat with the instructor and other students, share photos of their work in progress and finished work. The instructor will be available via email for private questions.

Time Frame to do the exercises: While all of your videos will be accessible at one time, the suggested time frame needed to work on each exercises depends on how quickly you work. It takes me approximately 2-3 days to work on one page, but that’s how I work, some people may work more quickly and others may need a week or more to work on a page.

Frequently asked questions:

Do you have to know how to paint in order to enjoy this class?

Absolutely not, but this class will use primarily use paint to illustrate the exercises and techniques.

What is an open ended class?

An open ended class means that while the class goes live on a specific date, there are no due dates or formal structure to how long you have to work on each video. The videos will be available on our website for your viewing 24hrs a day, 7 days a week other than any regularly scheduled maintenance on the website or internal maintenance from Creative Work Shops. While you can download the instructions and supply list, you will have to view the videos on the website.

Pearfect Art

In between packing, working and holding classes, I've been painting a bit to get ready for an upcoming show in October. I've had 6 months to get ready for it, and umm....well, just like most things when I think time is on my side, I put it off till the last minute to really put the pedal to the medal and get busy. Actually I have prepared quite a bit already but not where I want to be. These cute little paintings were a 'Pear-fect' diversion from a big project I had completed after several months. It was fun to play around with a funky still life. What do you think? Should I do more?
True to my style, I've incorporated a lot of texture and a few main colors. I like to work with surprising but complimentary colors in a limited color palette. I just LOVE dreaming up or being inspired by color combinations!! I'm trying to restrain myself as I dream of what I'm going to style my new home in so it doesn't look like a crayon box in every room!
workshoppromo
Speaking of color, last night I held another class at Swank in Southern Pines, Mixed Media Portraits and it was so much fun! I really think I'm beginning to find my groove. One of my next goals is to teach at a major mixed media retreat but I need to get a few more workshops under my belt before I apply to something like Art and Soul or one of the other many big art fests. A girl can dream though, right?

What else...ohhhh I have a sale going on over in my Etsy shop-25% off any one item! To redeem, simply check out with a message to buyer saying Sweet September and I'll refund you the difference via paypal. Stock up no for the holidays! I have some new items to list this week so stay tuned!

Lunch is about over, so better get back to work. Hope you are having a great week!

Riding The Wave

Yesterday I walked out in the ocean until I was shoulder deep in the water, and then leaned back and let my legs lift up off the sand. As the water calmly allowed me to float along, I prepared myself for the inevitable wave to rush over me and lead me back to the shore. I was not disappointed. With all the faith I had in me that I would be carried along and not washed under, I felt the power of the tide rise me up from the deepest core. I had no control of where I was going, I only knew that I was moving forward with a rush. It all started with lifting my feet up and giving into what was happening around me. What a peaceful feeling taking your feet out of the sand.

****

I'm going on vacation soon but wanted to share with you a special sale in my etsy shop:
