Who doesn't Love a Giveaway? Or Two?

Up for grabs is an autographed copy of the January/February issue of Cloth Paper Scissors which features my article, "How To Fake It" which highlights a technique that I love to create a faux encaustic look with a variety of mediums taken from my class "Fearless Faux Encaustics" over at Creative Workshops. Not only am I offering the magazine, but you will get the class itself which is an open ended class offering more than 15 videos and about 3 hours of instruction that you can view 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!

While you are in the neighborhood, I wanted to feature some of the new items listed in my Etsy shop this week. Despite the obstacles I've faced personally over the last month....I've created some pieces lately that
are really about what I believe in and cherish and that there is someone out there for everyone...sometimes it just takes patience while you wait for the stars to align and for the pieces to fall into place.

One thing I have found though while searching....there's a lot of love that you can surround yourself with in many shapes and forms...you just have to be open to it.
You must love yourself first though before you can be true and love others.

ReplyDeleteHi Jodi I loved your journaling class and I'm sure I would love to take more classes from you. I would enjoy reading that issue of cloth paper scissors. I already like you on FB. I will put your give away on my sidebar and I'll be back to tell you. Now you want a faking it tip. They only thing I can think of right now is making a sheet of craft foam look like worn leather. You use a heat gun to soften and warm the foam and while it's still warm press rubber stamps or other things into the sheet to make marks. You add inks and or dyes to add color. It's been a while since I did this technique I think I'll get some supplies and try this again. I sure hope that is the kind of tip you're looking for. Joyous Wishes, Linda

ReplyDeleteOh, I'd love to win your new class on Faux Encaustic! And the magazine too! My tip is to use gel medium to attach waxed paper over parts of your mixed media pieces. I use matte gel medium under and over the waxed paper, and it gives it a waxy glazed look and softens whatever is underneath it. Thanks for the generous giveaway!

ReplyDeleteAs far as a tip, I am typically a perfectionist who needs just the right thing. Collaging is teaching me things don't need to be perfect to be beautiful. I think that's why I'm drawn to this project, there is so much room to create whatever comes from the heart! So my tip is use what you have and see what you have with new eyes, you might just be surprised :)
Wow...would love to take a class with you. As far as tip...well I use food coloring mix with water and a little glue to spray thru stencils and mask. Works great and very cheap...

ReplyDeleteI like the look of antiqued art so I use whatever is around such as coffee, tea, watered down umber paint... I've even left paper outside to bleach and weather to get the right effect. Thanks for the giveaway and good luck to everyone! ~Hobby

oohh..what a schweet giveaway!!! See you soon at Random Arts! My fake-it tip? Hmm..I like using some of DeMengs texture methods to make things look old and worn...like using wood glue and shellac and burning it to give an antique look.

ReplyDeleteOK - I guess I'll fess up - my "fake it" is that I will use graphite paper to transfer the outline of images to my journal pages instead of free-hand drawing them. I am working on my drawing skills but sometimes I just want that certain image on my page.

Hi Jodi , I have been wanting to take your class for a long time, but life kept getting in the way. I would treasure a chance to win that class. I like using tyvek making it look like leather. I use it when making some of my journals.

I like to make fake washi tape by printing letters and images onto kraft paper then cutting it in strips.

ReplyDeleteHi Jodi, what a great give-away! My tip is one that I have been using to paint faces. In order to get the right proportions, I cut ladies heads out of large ads for cosmetics, trace around the outline, and then put the face next to my image while I paint or draw in the facial features.

ReplyDeleteGreat article in CPS! I love the look you were able to fake without the wax. My favorite "fake it" is to trace the general shape of an animal when I am drawing them so that I have the correct dimensions. I can take this very basic drawing and paint, color or sketch away without too much worry of having things out of whack. Shhh don't tell! hahaha

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love your giveaway ~ one of my inexpensive tricks is using eyeshadow instead of the pastels...... Some of the colors in the eye shadow kits are awesome!!!! Hugs to you all on this valentines day!!!!
